Policies

Admission Policy

  • At the time of admission, parents/ guardians will have to fill in the admission forms
  • Full payment for the course should be paid prior to the commencement of the course
  • Parents/ guardians and students must review all policies and procedures of High Five Academy
  • At time of enrollment the following must be submitted:
    • Proof of prerequisite
    • Proof of identification (passport, driving license, birth certificate)
  • The report card will be sent to the student’s home school for updating the OSR on successful completion of the course

Assessment Policy

  • Students are assessed and evaluated based on the Achievement Charts in the Provincial Curriculum Policy Documents for the courses in which they are enrolled. Evaluation is based on the level of achievement the student demonstrates in the skills and knowledge covered in a course.
  • 70% of the final mark is based on classroom work. 30% of the final mark is based on a final evaluation
  • Student progress is formally reported to parents at mid-semester and end of semester

Late Assignment Policy

  • It is the expectation that all assignments shall be submitted by the designated due date
  • Assignments are designed to reflect the curriculum expectations and are essential to the assessment of the student’s achievement
  • Teachers will strictly enforce this policy and their established due dates
  • If a students does not submit an assignment by the due date, the following will apply:
    • The assignment may be submitted, but must be accompanied by a clearly written reason for the assignment being late
    • The assignment must be returned before any of the assignments have been returned to the class by the teacher
  • If these two conditions are met, the assignment will be accepted at face value
  • Should students do not meet these conditions, a mark of zero will be given.

Missed Assignment / Test Policy

  • Students are expected to assume full responsibility for class attendance and are accountable for all work missed because of absence. Assignments are due as soon as the student returns to school
  • If a student misses a test with legitimate reasons, they are responsible to write that evaluation on the day on which they return
  • If a student misses a test without legitimate reasons, a zero will given

Student Responsibilities

  • Regular, punctual attendance is essential for every student to achieve academic success.
  • It is the student’s responsibility to be honest in all aspects of academic work
  • The following behaviours are unacceptable:
    • Physical, verbal, secual or psychological abuse
    • Bullying or discrimination on the bases of race, culture, religion, gender, language, disability, secual orientation, or any other attribute.

Plagiarism Policy

  • Plagiarism is an act of cheating, borrowing, stealing or copying the work of another person. Plagiarism is intentionally or unintentionally using another person’s words or ideas and presenting these as one’s own. It is a serious offence that will result in serious academic consequences.
  • Students must always submit original work and to give credit to all research sources correctly and consistently.
  • If a student is found to have plagiarised, the following will occur:
    • The teacher, student and principal will discuss what plagiarism occured
    • If the plagiarism is found to be intentional, the academic penalty will be a mark of zero and a record of this will be kept in the principal’s office
    • If the plagiarism is found to be unintentional, the student will be given the opportunity to rewrite the paper by an agreed upon date.

Safe School Policy

  • High Five Academy is an educational community where each member deserves equal dignity and value. We are committed to provide a safe, respectful and non-threatening environment for learning and working together.
  • In order to maintain and enhance an environment that is safe, welcoming and in which teaching and learning will flourish, staff and students at High Five Academy are expected to behave in a manner that is helpful, courteous, respectful and caring
  • Students are encouraged to approach any staff member to report any incident they believe is not acceptable
  • High Five Academy has a zero tolerance policy for negative, disruptive and aggressive behaviour
  • Those who do not comply with these standards will face consequences
  • All staff and students must respect the rights of all members of the school community
  • Unacceptable behaviour includes: verbal assault, sexual harassment or assault, fighting, physical assault, trespassing, possession or use of weapons and dangerous articles.
  • It is the responsibility of all members of High Five Academy to conduct themselves in order with the Ontario Human Rights Code, which explicitly prohibits sexual harassment
  • The possession and/or use of alcohol or illicit drugs on school property is forbidden and unlawful.
  • Smoking is banned within the school building and on all school property
  • Students are expected to use language that is appropriate to their dignity and the dignity of others. Course, profane or vulgar language is unacceptable
  • Vandalism and theft violate the spirit of respect and will be treated as serious offences

Refund Policy

  • Parents/ guardians must send a letter, fax or email to office informing about student withdrawal.
  • Full fees will be refunded if admission is withdrawn 15 days prior to commencement of the course
  • 50% of fees will be refunded if admission is withdrawn within 7 days prior to commencement of the course
  • No fees will be refunded after the commencement of the course
